The Montpelier Foundation recently announced a grant award that will enable the Montpelier Parks Department to construct a new multi-use trail that would span the perimeter of Hubbard Park and link downtown Montpelier to the Parks Connector trail at the North Branch Nature Center. The proposed trail will allow for multiple uses including biking, walking, running and skiing.

It will make use of 1 mile of existing trail and create 3 miles of new trail. “This project is a key part of the city’s broader vision of a network of interconnected trails, and it highlights the increasingly vital role during this time we are in of access to the outdoors for people’s physical and mental health,” said Montpelier Parks Director Alec Ellsworth.

Why Donors Contribute

Many individuals and businesses have contributed to help support vital projects in Montpelier.

As a Montpelier resident and contributor, I especially appreciate what the Montpelier Foundation has done for our city these past 25 years. The fund helped make possible many enduring community projects, and giving to the Foundation is a great way for people and businesses to help finance another 25 years of worthy projects.

- Bill Doyle, Vermont State Senator, 1969-2017

“Alan was deeply connected to the Montpelier community – its organizations, its people, its spirit. This gift to the Foundation is right in line with his commitment to the city and his desire to help assure Montpelier as a bright future.”

- Stephen Weiss, son of Alan Weiss, who bequeathed $35,000 to the Foundation
