Our Projects
As a core part of our mission, Foundation for a Resilient Montpelier implements a variety of projects for the betterment of the community. Some originate with the public forums that took place after the 2023 flood, others emerged from convenings that took place in the spring of 2026, while others, such as the effort to redevelop 87 State Street, are projects of opportunity where the Foundation has a special role to play.
The Property at 87 State Street
The announcement by the Federal Government that they would transition ownership of the property at 87 State Street has massive implications for the vitality of Montpelier’s downtown. Montpelier Commission for Recovery and Resilience, and now Foundation for a Resilient Montpelier, leapt to action to represent the community’s interests in pursuing redevelopment of the property. This has included the establishment of the 87 State Street Local Development Corporation (LDC). In recent news, GSA has rejected the high bid of the LDC to acquire the property. The LDC expects a second auction and intends to participate again. Read a recent press release reacting to the bid rejection here.
Montpelier Neighbor Net
Montpelier Neighbor Net is a collective of hyper-local neighborhood organizations that come together for social connections, emergency preparedness, and better communications. With a goal of covering the entire city with Neighbor Nets, a key focus is the recruitment of Local Coordinators. Learn more and sign up to participate here.
Building Community Through Volunteerism
Emerging as a top priority after public forums in the spring of 2026, a group has formed to implement actions that will promote volunteer opportunities in Montpelier with an eye towards strengthening the community. An annual volunteer fair, regular large volunteer events, and an easier discovery process for finding volunteer opportunities are initial areas of focus. Supporting Our Local Food System
